VANCOUVER,
BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - March 9, 2010) - VMS Ventures Inc.
(TSX VENTURE:VMS) (the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr.
Alan Bailes to the Advisory Board of the Company.
Dr. Alan Bailes has over 35 years
experience in exploration-supportive mapping in volcanic, sedimentary and
metamorphic terranes. He has extensive experience in Precambrian volcanology
and the nature and origin of VMS deposits.
VP Exploration and Technical
Services Dr. Mark Fedikow states: "Dr. Bailes appointment to the VMS Ventures
Advisory Board is a tremendous addition to the Company. Alan's expertise in the
geology of the Flin Flon – Snow Lake greenstone belt and its contained mineral
deposits are recognized industry wide and he has spent his career investigating
and understanding these rocks. His extensive experience makes our team stronger
and better equipped to move forward towards our next discovery. We look forward
to working with him as we begin a new chapter in the Company's history."
Dr. Bailes has participated in
numerous government-industry-university collaborative projects that have made
significant advances in the understanding of resource-rich greenstone belts and
the controls on contained mineralization. Between 2001 and 2008 Dr. Bailes was
the Chief Geologist in charge of the Precambrian Section of the Manitoba
Geological Survey and a participant in two Targeted Geoscience Initiatives
examining the geological setting of the Flin Flon VMS deposit. He began a
consulting career in 2008 that has included work with HudBay Minerals on their
recently discovered Lalor Zn-Cu-Au deposit.
Dr. Bailes has a B.Sc from McGill
University and a M.Sc and Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba. During his
career with the Manitoba Geological Survey he undertook numerous mapping
projects in the resource-rich Flin Flon greenstone belt with particular
emphasis on the Snow Lake area. He co-led the federal-provincial Snow Lake
EXTECH I project, which from 1989 to 1994 investigated new exploration
methodologies and strategies for VMS and Au mineralization. He served as
provincial representative on the industry-funded MITEC project 93E06: "Prospective
versus barren volcanic belts: A new exploration strategy". From 1991 to
1996 he participated in the NATMAP Shield Margin Project which revolutionized
the understanding of how greenstone belts developed and the role of
tectonostratigraphic setting in controlling mineralization. Between 1992 and
1998 he participated in the industry-sponsored CAMIRO project 94E07: "The
use of regional scale alteration zones and subvolcanic intrusions in
exploration for volcanic-associated massive sulphide deposits". From
2001 to 2008 Dr. Bailes participated in two Flin Flon Targeted Geoscience
Initiatives which examined the setting of the world-class Flin Flon VMS
deposit. In his recent role as a geological consultant, Dr. Bailes brings to
his investigations a strong geological background, solid understanding of VMS
deposits and in-depth knowledge of the Flin Flon greenstone belt.
